Case study

Client: A Fleet Management Startup serving Class 1 Railroads

Displaced a 20-year incumbent: a multibillion-dollar fleet services provider, one of the largest in North America. The new platform now processes tens of millions of dollars a year.

The platform serves enterprise fleet customers and a national vendor network, with an internal helpdesk and ticketing workflow. The MVP was built by a single engineer and launched into production within nine months; we then hired, trained and led the team that extends it.

Core systems: card transaction reconciliation, NACHA/ACH vendor payments, X12 EDI over SFTP, ERP invoicing, and a nightly reporting warehouse.

Stack: Laravel, Livewire, Alpine.js, Tailwind, PHP, MySQL, Azure / Entra ID, Microsoft 365

    Prototype

    Rapid prototyping of the fleet maintenance application, iterating directly on client feedback. The helpdesk and ticketing system was built on patterns from prior enterprise work.

  2. 02

    Harden & pilot

    Hardened the infrastructure and set up the basics of a startup tech business, from the Microsoft 365 / Entra ID tenant to device management. Rolled out as a pilot in production.

  3. 03

    Scale & hire

    After the pilot succeeded, scaled the application fast. Hired junior developers through MASBOOT, MAS3's own challenge-style bootcamp that teaches Laravel to recent college grads.

  4. 04

    Hand off the team

    Moved the MASBOOT developers onto the client's payroll as employees. They kept building alongside the original engineer with no break in delivery.

  5. 05

    Replace & certify

    The legacy vendor is fully replaced. We are now leading the company through its SOC 2 audit, after putting the required controls in place, including penetration testing.
